GiveBig to Support Feminist Makers!
Update: Due to technical difficulties, GiveBig will be extended to midnight May 4th.
Seattle Attic will be participating this year in the Seattle Foundation’s annual GiveBig charity fundraising drive! On May 3rd, the Seattle Foundation will be coordinating a massive one-day fundraising drive in conjunction with many local non-profit organizations. GiveBig will be adding to your donations to the Attic on May 3rd in two ways: through a random drawing and a “stretch fund”. Every hour an additional $1000 will be given to a randomly chosen non-profit that has gotten a donation during that hour, and at the end of the day they will be dividing a large amount of money among all participating non-profits proportional to amount raised by each non-profit.
In short: the more you give to the Attic, the more funds we can get from GiveBig!
This is our first big fundraiser campaign since our original Indiegogo campaign back in 2013. Thanks to your generosity during that initial fundraiser and your ongoing support for the next two and a half years, we were able to focus our efforts on building up our community and our space. The original Indiegogo funds helped us establish our scholarship fund, which supports members who wish to be a part of our community but, for any reason, do not have the financial resources to do so. The scholarship fund has been a great success, and has enabled us to build a community that’s open to a more diverse group of members.
Alas, almost three years later, our scholarship fund is running low. In addition to replenishing the fund, we are hoping to grow it so we can expand membership recruitment this year. With a larger membership, we will be able to expand our space in size and bring in more tools and resources (including a Glowforge; more on that in a later blog post) for our members and guests.
So help support us May 3rd for GiveBig. With your support, we can continue to grow our community of feminist makers, crafters and hackers. If you’re worried about forgetting, you can join our (low volume) mailing list, our Meetup group, or follow our Twitter account. You can even schedule your donations in advance on our GiveBig profile page.
